This paid internship program places you in hotels, resorts, and traditional ryokan inns across Japan, offering real-world training, cultural immersion, and professional growth.

Two Internship Tracks

Depending on your home country, there are two ways to participate:

1. Working Holiday Visa Track

For applicants from countries that have a Working Holiday agreement with Japan.

Visa
  • Open to young adults with a Working Holiday Visa
  • Any major (hospitality experience preferred but not required)
  • Basic Japanese required (intermediate preferred for customer-facing roles)

2. Student Internship Track (Special Activity Visa)

For applicants from countries without a Working Holiday agreement (including the United States).

Student Internship Visa
  • Must be a current college/university student
  • Major in Hospitality or Japanese
  • Visa support provided (Special Activity 9th Visa for 6–12 months, or 12th Visa for short-term summer internship)

Where You Can Intern

Participants are placed at:

  • 3–5 star international hotels and Japanese hotel chains
  • Ryokan (traditional inns) and onsen spa resorts
  • Locations across Japan (except major cities like Tokyo and Osaka)

Typical positions include:

  • Front Desk
  • Food & Beverage Service
  • Housekeeping
  • Kitchen Help
  • Some hotels also offer rotational roles as General Assistants

  • Free counseling and interview preparation

Yes. Your placement must be related to your field of study.

  • If you are a Hospitality major, basic Japanese study is recommended.
  • If you are a Japanese major, previous part-time experience in hotels or restaurants is preferred.

At ski resort areas such as Niseko or Hakuba, many Working Holiday participants from English-speaking countries are also working in hotels.

Basic Japanese is required for all participants. For customer-facing roles (Front Desk, Food & Beverage), intermediate Japanese is preferred. Some positions, like housekeeping or kitchen help, may be possible with only basic Japanese.

The salary is based on Japan’s regional minimum wage, usually between JPY 170,000–240,000 per month before tax. Accommodation and duty meals are provided, so living costs are lower than average.

Internships are offered at 3–5 star international hotels, Japanese hotel chains, and traditional ryokan inns across Japan—mainly in resort areas. Placements are not in Tokyo or Osaka, but in locations such as ski resorts (Niseko, Hakuba) or hot spring destinations.

Most internships last 6–12 months, with start dates in summer (June) or winter (December/January). Some short-term 3-month options are available in the summer.
